Over 14 million root canals are performed every year, it is easily the most common dental procedure. This treatment will not only save your natural teeth, but will prevent any need of a dental bridge or dental implant. The diagnosis of orofacial pain and pulpal injury will determine if Dr. Lin feels the tooth is a good candidate for endodontic treatment.
The center of your tooth is pulp which is a large bundle of blood vessels that help build the surrounding tooth. Trauma to the tooth, decay, or chips and cracks can all cause infection of the pulp in the tooth. You can identify an infection by swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature, or pain in the gums and tooth.
A root canal will be recommended by Dr. Lin if you experience these symptoms. The injured pulp is removed and the tooth is cleaned and sealed. One or two visits will be required depending on the treatment and will involve local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. You will be able to drive yourself home after treatment and may return to your normal daily routine.
The cost will depend on the amount of damage to the affected tooth. Endodontic treatments are generally much more cost effective than removal and replacement with an artificial tooth.
